Konongo-Odumase (Ash), March 6, GNA – Dr Ebenezer Ekow Aidoo, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asante Akim Central, has highlighted what he described as significant achievements by the government as Ghana marked its 69th Independence Anniversary.
He said the government’s policies aimed at stabilising the economy, creating jobs and investing in infrastructure were helping to restore hope and build prosperity among citizens.
Dr Aidoo made the remarks during the 69th Independence Day celebration parade held at Konongo-Odumasi Senior High School on Friday.
The event formed part of nationwide celebrations marking Ghana’s independence from Britain on March 6, 1957.
Addressing traditional leaders, political party representatives, security agencies, teachers, students and residents, the MCE said the anniversary served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by Ghana’s forebears in securing freedom for the nation.
He said the theme for this year’s celebration, “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,” reflected the need for citizens to work together to strengthen the economy and improve living standards.

Dr Aidoo noted that the government led by President John Dramani Mahama had introduced measures under its resetting agenda to stabilise the economy through fiscal discipline and improvements in the foreign exchange market.
He said these efforts had contributed to relative price stability and reductions in the cost of some imported goods.
He also stated that the government had created employment opportunities for young people across various sectors while investing in infrastructure and road construction under the “Big Push” agenda.
“At the municipal level, we have seen progress through the use of DRIP machines in reshaping roads to support commuters, the construction of boreholes in several communities, and the development of CHPS compounds and other infrastructure projects,” he said.
Dr Aidoo further disclosed that the Assembly was pursuing partnerships with investors from India to modernise agriculture in the municipality through improved seeds, irrigation systems such as drip technology and value addition for crops including maize, plantain and vegetables.
He emphasised the government’s commitment to strengthening education, describing it as the foundation of national development.
The MCE said the Municipal Assembly continued to complement government efforts through the provision of classroom infrastructure, furniture, teaching and learning materials, as well as support for digital learning initiatives.
He revealed that construction of an ultra-modern Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) complex had commenced at Nyaboo, while projects such as the completion of the Ohenenkwanta Basic School and the distribution of furniture were underway.
To further support education in hard-to-reach communities, the Assembly also donated a tricycle to the Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service to facilitate the transportation of teachers.
As part of the celebration, several schools, teachers and students were honoured for outstanding performance.
Awards were presented in categories including best teacher at the kindergarten, primary, junior high school and senior high school levels, best rural teacher, best school, best basic school, best senior high school, best head teacher, best headmaster, as well as best BECE and WASSCE candidates.
Dr Aidoo called on citizens to set aside their differences and work together to promote unity, peace and development.
He urged residents of the municipality to honour the sacrifices of the nation’s forebears by contributing to the growth and progress of the country.
