Axim (W/R), Feb. 06, GNA – Mr Joseph Nelson, the Western Regional Minister, has tasked Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the region to strictly enforce sanitation bylaws to ensure a clean environment in their respective areas.
He said this when he addressed staff of the Nzema East Municipal Assembly during a working visit to the area, at Axim.
The Minister stated that under his tenure, he would ensure strict adherence to sanitation bylaws to prevent disease outbreaks, particularly cholera which resulted in loss of lives in the region in 2024.
Mr Nelson said, “Let me caution that in 2024, we had incidents of cholera, and this was because we do not observe good hygienic practices, so under my watch I do not want to hear anything of such.
“It will be good for all MMDAs to strictly enforce our sanitation bylaws and ensure that our surroundings are clean and healthy for everyone.”
He also cautioned against the indiscriminate setting of structures and urged the assemblies to ensure such projects were situated at legal and approved locations.
Mr Herbert Kua Dickson, the Nzema East Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), said the Assembly was faced with a severe shortage of office space and logistics that were undermining effective service delivery in the municipality.
He appealed to the Regional Minister to aid the Assembly in resolving its challenges to help them deliver timely and quality services to the people.
