Sefwi-Wiawso (WNR), Feb 22, GNA â Mr. Wilbert Petty Brentum, the Western North Regional Minister, has inaugurated the Regional Disaster Management Committee to boost disaster prevention and control efforts in the region.
The committee, chaired by the Regional Minister, include representatives from key agencies like Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Health Service, Regional Coordinating Director, among others.
Mr. Brentum urged the members to identify hotspots, risks and put measures in place to mitigate their impact, highlighting the committeeâs crucial role in preparing disaster prevention plans and coordinating district efforts under Act 927.
He emphasized the committeeâs responsibility in directly impacting lives and urged members to work together to make a difference.
The committee would provide advisory, technical, and logistical support to District Disaster Management Committees to mitigate disaster impacts.
The Regional Minister assured members of the Regional Coordinating Councilâs support for effective execution of their functions, expressing confidence in their diverse expertise to drive disaster management efforts in the region.
The committeeâs inauguration is expected to enhance disaster risk management and response in Western North.
