Truck drivers advised to tread carefully on Asukawkaw road

Dambai (O/R), Feb 24, GNA- The Oti Regional Second in-Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), D.O.1. Mr Francis Agbavitor, has issued a warning to first-time drivers to exercise caution when navigating the treacherous Asukkawkaw road.  

He made the statement after a fatal road accident on Sunday, February 22,2026, which claimed the lives of two individuals, with five others lost souls in similar incidents on the same spot between January and February 2026.  

D.O.1. Francis Agbavitor, acting as Oti Regional commander, advised drivers to study the road carefully, familiarize themselves with the route and drive defensively to minimize accidents in the area.  

According to him, the road is not very bad, but it is challenging and appealed to the Road Safety Commission to increase more signboards and educational materials to alert drivers.  

Subordinate Officer Maxwell Ashong, Public Relations officer of the Oti Regional GNFS Command, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that personnel of the GNFS stationed at Pai-Katanga in the Krachi East municipality responded to the incident about 0400 hours after receiving a distress call of overturned trailer truck.  

According to him, a four-member team were dispatched to the accident scene and undertook nearly seven hours of intensive rescue operations to retrieved two deceased bodies mangled and handed over to the Ghana Police Service for preservation and further investigations.  

Sub Officer Maxwell Ashong advised drivers to prioritize rest and avoid fatigue, especially on long journeys from Accra to the Oti Region. ‘Pack and continue after taking a brief rest to avoid accidents,’ “He added.
