Accra, Feb 19, GNA – The Bono East Regional Police Command has returned GHC85,000.00 found close to a snap check to its owner.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Appiah Danquah, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, in a release copied to the Ghana News Agency, said on Saturday, February 14, at about 0420 hours, the attention of some police officers were drawn to a bag, which had possibly fallen off a moving vehicle, lying on the roadside.
The officers were on duty at the Police Snap Check Point on the Techiman-Kumasi Highway.
“The bag bore the name “Ofori” and a phone number written on it,” the release said.
The duty officers, led by Inspector George Appiah, with three others, took the bag and realised it contained money. They dutifully handed it over to the Regional Command for investigation.
The release said the contact number on the bag was called and a 53-year-old businessman from Ashtown, Kumasi, who identified himself as Stephen Ofori, responded. He later reported to the check point to claim ownership.
“Ofori said the GHC 85,000.00 was being transported from GCB Bank, Wa to Kumasi via a commercial vehicle,” it added.
The amount was verified in the presence of Ofori and it was confirmed to be GHC 85,000.00.
After satisfactory explanation from the claimant and upon further verification, the police released the money to him.
“We wish to highly commend our officers and the community members who brought this to the attention of the police,” the release said.
