Kadjebi (O/R), Sept. 03, GNA – Mr Yao Gomado, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Akan Constituency, has announced plans to provide 650 mattresses and chop boxes to 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) graduates from the constituency, who will gain admissions to Senior High Schools (SHSs).
He said candidates who obtained single aggregates in the 2026 BECE would also receive special incentives, as part of measures to encourage academic excellence among students in the constituency.
Mr Gomado announced this at a meeting at Kadjebi in the Oti Region, saying the initiative was intended to ease the financial burden on parents and guardians who struggled to provide the required items on school prospectus for their wards entering SHS.
The MP said his interventions in education, including the introduction of special mock examinations and the provision of mathematical sets for BECE candidates, had contributed to improvements in the constituency’s educational outcomes.
He said the district recorded an 82 per cent pass rate in the 2025 BECE, attributing the improvement partly to the interventions.
Mr Gomado said he would continue to support education in the constituency, stressing that education remained the foundation for human capital development and the socio-economic transformation of communities.
He urged parents, teachers, and students to remain committed to academic excellence and take advantage of available educational opportunities.
The MP said the support for SHS entrants formed part of his broader commitment to ensuring that financial challenges did not prevent deserving students from pursuing their education.
