Wenchi (Bono), Sept. 03, GNA – Mr Richard Kwadwo Adu, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region, has expressed concern about the delay of the party in choosing its Election 2028 running-mate.
He reminded the party of the need to maintain Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known in the political circle as ‘Napo’ as the party’s running-mate.
He said Napo remained politically relevant and the best match for the former Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2028 flagbearer of the NPP.
Mr Adu warned that choosing another running-mate would politically be inexpedient for the party and narrowed its fortunes in winning political power in the next General Election.
He justified that: “Since 2000 the NPP hasn’t gotten a running-mate who is more loyal and supportive to the party’s grassroots like Napo”.
Mr Adu, a former NPP youth organiser at the Wenchi constituency, gave the warning in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Wenchi, a political stronghold of the NPP in the Bono Region.
He emphasised that the delays in choosing Napo as the party’s running-mate defeated the purpose of upon which the NPP conducted the early congress in 2025 which maintained Alhaji Dr Bawumia as the Election 2028 flagbearer of the NPP.
Mr Adu stressed that Napo had built a strong grassroot support base not only within the NPP, but across the length and breadth of the country.
He emphasised that the various constituencies remained the strong pillars of the party, saying that: “If we desire to come back to political power, then the NPP and Dr Bawumia must listen and consider our choice for Napo.”
Mr Adu concluded that with “Napo matching Bawumia,” it would be easier for the NPP to win back political power in the Election 2028.
