Koforidua, Feb. 21, GNA – Muslims in Koforidua have begun the holy month of Ramadan with a call from the Eastern Regional Chief Imam for greater commitment to daily prayers, patience and acts of kindness throughout the fasting period.

Alhaji Yusuf Amdani told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that these values reflected the core purpose of Ramadan and helped strengthen both personal faith and community bonds.

Ramadan, as observed by Muslims worldwide, is a month dedicated to fasting, prayer, charity, and reflection.

It is based on the Islamic lunar calendar and begins with the sighting of the crescent moon. This year’s fasting started on February 19, 2026.

Touching on rising cases of drug abuse among teenagers, Alhaji Amdani urged parents and guardians to look out for early warning signs and intervene quickly.

He said red flags may include sudden changes in friends, possession of unfamiliar medicine containers, noticeable shifts in physical appearances, and other unusual behaviours.

“If you notice these signs in your child, open communication is important. Seek help from health professionals or the Narcotics Control Commission,” he advised.

The Imam said addressing teenage drug use would help reduce crime and enable young people to contribute positively to their communities.
