More than 200,000 students to benefit from No-Fee-Stress policy in 2026

Accra, Feb.27, GNA- The government has projected an increase of 220,000 students to benefit from the No-Fee-Stress policy for first-year tertiary students in 2026. 

A total of 152,698 students benefited from the policy for the 2025 academic year, President John Dramani Mamaha announced in the State of the Nation Address on Friday. 

He stressed that law students would now have the opportunity to benefit from the student loan scheme to expand access to pursuing legal education. 

President Mahama said plans were made to construct 600 new schools across kindergarten, primary, and junior high levels to improve learning outcomes. 

The Government had plans to construct six regional TVET centres of excellence to expand the existing ones. 

Touching on infrastructure for teachers, he announced 50,000 housing units for teachers to ease their conditions of service. 

The President assured Ghanaians of sustaining the Free Senior High School programme, adding that Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) schools had been operationalised in more regions. 

He stated that curriculum review was ongoing to align with industry needs. 

President Mahama said an additional 12.2 million sanitary pads were distributed to school girls to support attendance and retention. 

“Government has increased daily feeding grants for students in public special schools from GHc8.00 to GHC15.00,” he said.
