Sunyani, (Bono), Feb. 27, GNA-Some residents in Sunyani, the Bono Regional capital say they anticipated that the State of the Nation’s Address (SONA) outline realistic interventions to alleviate the plight of the ordinary Ghanaian.
President John Dramani Mahama delivered the SONA in Parliament on Friday February 27, 2026.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani prior to the President’s address, the residents asked the government to adjust high electricity tariffs and address the rising youth unemployment rate as well.
Madam Bennis Osei, a seamstress, regretted that high electricity bills were impeding their businesses, saying that: “We are fed up with the high electricity bills”.
In his view, Mr George Mensah, a basic schoolteacher, said youth unemployment remained a serious development challenge, saying that was partly contributing to the rising crime wave in the country.
He said the government needed to tackle the rising unemployment rate with urgency to secure a brighter future of youth.
Madam Elizabeth Mensah, a petty trader, commended the government for reviving the economy, saying that the government had done well in reducing prices of basic food items.
Nonetheless, she called on the government to expedite action for the establishment of the Women Development Bank as promised by President Mahama in the 2024 election campaign, saying that the market women and petty traders anticipated the establishment of the bank.
