Minister reaffirms Mahama’s dedication to strengthen accountability

Sunyani, (Bono), Feb. 3, GNA – Mr Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs has reaffirmed President John Dramani Mahama’s dedication to strengthen accountability in public administration.

He said the Social Accountability Committee (SAC) would soon engage Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to assess their performance especially in the public funds, saying the President had directed all appointees to prioritize accountability.

Mr Ibrahim gave the assurance when he addressed a meeting of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs in Sunyani, saying that: “All chief executives with accountability challenges have until March 31, 2026, to regularise their records”.

He explained that the engagement would center on the reports of Assemblies detailing inherited assets, as well as expenditures and use of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) as well as the Internally Generated Funds for performance assessment.

Mr Ibrahim asked the MMDCEs to be more proactive, saying that: “Leadership goes beyond staying in the office” and asked them to engage their respective communities in the effective implementation of government policies and programmes. He said for the first time the government had disbursed the DACF for all the four quarters,

saying the Disability Funds would be increased from three to five percent, saying arrears of the Assembly ‘s allowances had also been paid.

Mr Ibrahim said the government was also ensuring that all Ministers of State worked diligently in ensuring the successful implementation of government policies and programmes and to better the socioeconomic livelihood of the masses.

Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, the Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area and the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs commended the government for increasing allowances for chiefs and queen mothers and the judicial committee of the house.

He expressed concern about poor sanitation and waste management and attributed it to the termination of the contract of Zoomlion Company Limited, a waste management and sanitation firm.

Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Badu II called on the government to adequately resource tradition to frontline and improve proper sanitation in the country and urged the government to also prioritise the construction of networks in border communities.

He cited that improved Gonokrom-Côte D’Ivoire and Sampa-Côte d’Ivoire roads would spur economic growth and progressive development.
