Accra, Feb. 18, GNA—Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister of Local Government, has lauded the efforts of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCs).
He said: “At least when people are doing well, give them praise… I’m not holding the torch for the MMDs; they are working very hard.”
Speaking in an interview with a session of the media in Parliament House, Accra, on Wednesday, the Minister emphasised accountability and results-driven leadership, with increased funding to districts ($2-4 million to MMDCs).
“My job is to ensure balanced development, per the constitution… It’s about work ethics, not relationships,” he said.
Mr Ibrahim, also the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Banda, also highlighted achievements, including appointing 261 MMDCs within 5 months, 300 per cent salary increases for chiefs and queen mothers, and streamlined ministry functions.
“We have cut unnecessary costs, cancelled contracts… and focused on results,” the Minister said, adding, “The president wants this to be a legacy term.”
