KsTU places fourth in inaugural QS Sub-Saharan Africa Rankings 2026

Kumasi, Feb. 18, GNA – The Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has placed fourth among seven Ghanaian universities in the inaugural QS World University Rankings in Sub-Saharan Africa in 2026 and 48th across the region.

The rankings, released on February 12, assessed 69 universities across 21 countries, focusing on research output, impact, academic reputation, employer perception, sustainability, global engagement, and student experience.

KsTU recorded an overall score of 17.1, with research emerging as a key strength, achieving 84.3 citations per paper and 17.9 papers per faculty member, while its academic reputation scored 12.7.

Nationally, the University of Ghana leads, followed by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and University of Cape Coast, with KsTU ranking ahead of Ashesi, Catholic University of Ghana, and the University of Mines and Technology respectively.

Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh, the Vice-Chancellor, credited the milestone to the collective effort of the staff and students, emphasising the University’s focus on industry-aligned programmes, practical skills development, and impactful research.

He said KsTU remained the highest-ranked technical university in Ghana, reinforcing its strategic influence in regional higher education.
