Bedeku-Ada, Feb. 25, GNA – Mr Korley Abraham Teye, the Assembly Member for the Bedeku Electoral Area in the Ada East District, has initiated the construction of a 24-seater public toilet facility at Bedeku Ngetsokope to help curb open defecation in the community.
As part of the project kickoff, Mr Teye delivered 300 concrete blocks and 20 bags of cement to the Bedeku Chief to commence the construction works.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), he said the project was motivated by the urgent need to address widespread open defecation in the area.
“The larger population does not have private household toilets, so many people resort to the bush and even the cemetery. I want this to become a thing of the past,” he stated.
He disclosed that the facility, expected to begin on Thursday, February 26, 2026, is scheduled for completion by the end of March 2026.
Mr Teye said funding for the project was being provided through a combination of his personal support, assistance from an NGO partner, and portions of the government allowance allocated to assembly members.
He noted that the toilet project formed part of a broader development agenda for the electoral area, noting that an additional three-unit classroom pavilion at the Bedeku Technical Institute was currently at the foundation level, while a community water project was ongoing at Korlekope.
“Through partnerships, I deliver water to communities even outside my electoral area whenever necessary,” he said.
He further revealed plans to construct three more 24-seater toilet facilities at different locations within the electoral area after completion of the current project.
The assembly member added that upcoming initiatives for Korlekope include the establishment of an ICT laboratory and a community library to support education and digital access.
He called on residents to support communal labour and take ownership of development projects in the area to ensure their sustainability.
