Bawumia Thanksgiving: NPP must earn victory in 2028

Accra, Feb. 16, GNA – Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), says the Party must work diligently and unite to earn victory in the 2028 general election.

“Victory in 2028 will not be gifted to us. It must be earned constituency by constituency, household by household, with humility and purpose,” he stated at the Party’s National Thanksgiving Service in Accra on Sunday.

The Service, held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, was to thank God for a successful presidential primary conducted on January 31, 2026, which elected Dr Bawumia as its flagbearer for the next general election.

Party stalwarts, supporters and sympathisers, clad in white, participated in praises and worship, prayers and rededication to unity.

Dr Bawumia acknowledged that the just-ended internal contest had been gruelling and could have strained relationships within the Party.

“Elections can leave scars that may not show on the surface but can sometimes cut deep,” he said, urging members to forgive one another for the “unpalatable things” said during the campaign period.

Dr Bawumia commended efforts by members to reconcile after the polls, noting that healing would require honesty and deliberate action.

“Healing will not come from silence. It will come from speaking up on what binds us together and working towards it,” he said.

The NPP Flagbearer called on members to put aside “personal grudges, internal suspicions and factional lines” and rebuild trust, stressing that the Party had more in common than its differences.

He outlined steps to reposition the NPP ahead of the 2028 polls, including a nationwide thank-you tour to acknowledge the hard work and conduct of members during the primary.

The Party would also reorganise its policy structures to fine-tune and market its alternative policy proposals to Ghanaians within the shortest possible time, Dr Bawumia said.

Additionally, he indicated that efforts were underway to strengthen party structures to build a “stronger and well-motivated machinery.”
“This is the beginning of our journey to win back the trust and love of the Ghanaian people,” he said, pledging to work with party members at all levels, including youth organisers, women leaders and elders, to rebuild confidence in the NPP.

Dr Bawumia reaffirmed his commitment to service, discipline and hard work, and called on members to remain focused and determined as the Party prepares for the 2028 general election.
