Asante Kotoko, coach Zito part ways with immediate effect

Accra, Feb. 10, GNA – Asante Kotoko have parted ways with head coach Abdul Karim Zito after the team’s 4-2 defeat on penalties to Aduana FC in their MTN FA Cup Round of 16 clash at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The result ended Kotoko’s FA Cup defence and deepened their recent struggles, with the club managing just one win in their last five matches.

The decision followed a meeting on Monday between Zito and the club’s Interim Management Committee. A club statement said, “Abdul Karim Zito Kabutey has resigned from his role as the head coach of Asante Kotoko SC with immediate effect.

“Management has accepted the resignation, expressed its appreciation to the coach for his services, and wished him the best for the future.”

The club also announced that the new direction of the technical team would be announced in due course. The timing of Zito’s departure could prove pivotal as Kotoko prepares to host arch-rivals Hearts of Oak in a matchday 22 league fixture.

Kotoko sits fifth in the standings and would be hoping to salvage their campaign in the second half of the season.
