Wa, (UW/R), Jan. 21, GNA – A total of 3,040 prospective officers of the Ghana Prisons Service (GPS) have gone through screening in the Upper West Region in the ongoing recruitment process for the security services in the country.
The two-day screening exercise was held at three different screening centres in Wa, the Jubilee Park and the premises of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS), to ensure efficiency and crowd management.
The exercise, which started on Monday, January 19, 2026, saw 2,400 GPS applicants go through the screening at the three screening centres, while 640 applicants were screened on the second day of the exercise, 20th January 2026.
Deputy Director of Prisons (DDP) Alhaji Tasembedo Ousmane, the Upper West Regional Commander of the Ghana Prisons Service, who supervised the screening in the region, revealed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Wa.
He said the exercise was largely successful, but that some prospective GPS officers had challenges with information on their Ghana Cards and birth certificates, which prevented them from completing the process.
“The affected applicants were advised to visit the appropriate government offices to regularise their documents before returning”, Mr. Ousmane added.
The Regional Commander of the GPS commended the applicants for their cooperation and discipline throughout the exercise.
Meanwhile, in interviews with the GNA, some applicants said they faced challenges with information mismatch on their Ghana Cards and birth certificates.
Ms. Felicia Gasue, an affected applicant who had information mismatched on the two documents, appealed for expedite service at the appropriate offices to correct the errors on the documents to enable her return and complete the screening process.
Despite those challenges, the applicants expressed appreciation to the managers of the GPS in the region for a smooth conduct of the exercise.
