Accra, Jan. 24, GNA – Six Ghanaian journalists and editors have embarked on a Media Familiarisation Visit to India, aimed at strengthening media cooperation and deepening people-to-people ties between Ghana and India.
The journalists, drawn from the state-owned Ghana News Agency (GNA), Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Joy News, Media General, Business and Financial Times, and The High Street Journal, joined 21 other media practitioners from 17 countries across Central and West Africa and the Pacific regions.

The 10-day programme, organised and sponsored by the Government of India, is intended to offer participants first-hand insights into India’s political institutions, culture, economy and media landscape.
Activities during the visit included briefings at policy and research institutions, engagements with media organisations, and visits to key national landmarks in New Delhi, Agra and Mumbai.

The participants also toured the Rashtrapati Bhawan, the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Asian News International (ANI), the Bombay Stock Exchange, and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, as well as cultural and heritage sites such as the Taj Mahal and Dilli Haat.
Speaking to the Ghanaian participants ahead of the visit, Mr Manish Gupta, India’s High Commissioner to Ghana, said the familiarisation tour formed part of India’s commitment to building strong and enduring partnerships with Ghana and Africa through the media.

He noted that the media played a critical role in shaping perceptions and strengthening mutual understanding between peoples.
“This visit is designed to provide you with first-hand exposure to India’s democratic institutions, development journey and cultural diversity,” Mr Gupta said.
He encouraged the delegation to leverage the experience to promote balanced and informed reporting on India–Ghana relations and broader global issues.
In her remarks, Mrs Sabiya Paul, First Secretary in charge of India Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC), urged the participants to immerse themselves in Indian culture, particularly its cuisine.
She said that beyond enhancing sustained collaboration between Indian and African media professionals, the programme also sought to foster mutual understanding and strengthen bilateral ties.
