Kumasi, Jan. 29, GNA – Nana Kwaku Dankwah Opamago Kodie II, Paramount Chief of the Juansa Traditional Area in the Ashanti Region, has been appointed Strategic Adviser to the Global Gas Centre.
The appointment marks a significant milestone, bridging traditional authority with global energy sector leadership.
Nana Opamago Kodie, known in private life as Dr Ben Asante, is a former Chief Executive of the Ghana National Gas Company and an internationally recognised energy expert.
With decades of industrial and academic experience, he is widely regarded as a leading figure in the global gas sector.
A statement issued by the Global Gas Centre said the Paramount Chief’s role would go beyond traditional advisory duties.
“His profound understanding of the gas sector, coupled with his exceptional leadership in academia and industry, will be instrumental in shaping policies, strategies and sustainable energy solutions relevant across Africa and globally,” the Centre stated.
With a career spanning more than 30 years in engineering, education and executive leadership, Nana Opamago Kodie has contributed significantly to the development of the global gas industry.
He has mentored many young engineers and championed international partnerships.
His elevation to the traditional leadership of Juansa adds a layer of cultural stewardship and long-term community-focused vision to his professional expertise.
According to the Centre, his appointment is expected to strengthen strategic collaborations, especially in Africa, drawing on his extensive networks and deep understanding of socio-cultural contexts.
His guidance, it said, would help shape not only technical and regulatory directions but also broader initiatives aimed at promoting equitable, environmentally responsible and socially inclusive energy policies.
Meanwhile, Nana Opamago Kodie has expressed gratitude for the appointment.
“It is a profound honour to serve in this capacity. My aim is to integrate global best practices with the values of community leadership, ensuring that energy policies empower both economies and the people they serve,” he said.
