Anaji (WR), Jan. 6, GNA – A total of 65 members of the Ghana Blind Union in the Western Region have been treated to a feast to begin the new year on a fabulous note.

The annual event, organised by Nana Kwesi Coomson, Editor-in-Chief of the news portal “233times.net” continued to be a source of empowerment and hope to this section of the population.

Mr. Coomson,  told the Ghana News Agency that the project reaffirmed how inclusiveness was critical to holistic societal growth.

He said the social engagement project had steadily evolved into a sustainable empowerment initiative aimed at promoting economic independence and restoring dignity among persons with visual impairment.

According to him, for the third consecutive year, beneficiaries received grants to establish new businesses and scale up existing ones.

“The recipients are now able to trade in local and healthy beverages, bakery, popcorn vending, charcoal, and home cleaning products among others”.

He said the income generating activities had not only restored dignity but improved upon livelihoods, while reinforcing their capabilities.

Mr Coomson  said all the 65 members and their aides had been enrolled onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to enhance access to healthcare services.

He noted that “it is a rare privilege to be a channel of impact and blessing to the disabled,” emphasizing that the initiative was anchored on empowerment rather than sympathy.

Mr. Coomson further expressed heartfelt appreciation to the many individuals and partners who had supported the programme over the years, acknowledging their contributions made in cash, and ideas.

He stressed that the growth and consistency of the initiative would not have been possible without the collective commitment of people who believed in uplifting vulnerable members of society and creating lasting change.

He was grateful to the Member of Parliament for Kwesimintsim, Mr. Fiifi Buckman, for sponsoring the feast.

The Union Members unanimously praised the initiator, and sponsors describing the initiative as life-changing and a source of renewed hope to start each year.
