Ghana Immigration Service cooperates with police in ammunition tracking investigation

Accra, Jan 6, GNA-The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) confirms the arrest of one of its officers, Assistant Immigration Control Officer I (AICO I) Ahmed Abdul Samad, in connection with an ongoing criminal investigation by the Ghana Police Service.

Upon a formal request from the Ghana Police Service, the Upper East Regional Command of the GIS released the officer to the Police to assist with investigations into his alleged involvement in the transportation of a large quantity of ammunition, which was intercepted by the Police.

A statement signed by Maud Anima Quainoo, Deputy Commissioner of Immigration and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra said ‘the Ghana Immigration Service wishes to assure the public that it will not shield any officer whose actions undermine public safety or compromise the integrity and professionalism of the Service in this regard, the GIS is fully cooperating with the Ghana Police Service to support the ongoing investigations’.

The statement said the Service reiterated its unwavering commitment to national security, professionalism, and accountability.
“ The GIS will take firm and appropriate action against any officer found culpable of misconduct, in accordance with the law and established disciplinary procedures”, it concluded.
