Techiman, (Bono East) Jan. 31, GNA-The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Joseph Owusu-Ansah, the Bono East Regional Police commander, has warned delegates participating in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Primary against possessing offensive instruments.
He said all delegates arriving at the various centers were taken through thorough screening and search before they were allowed to exercise their franchise, pledging the police dedication to ensure that the elections were conducted peacefully in the region.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), DCOP Owusu-Ansah said it was an offence for any delegate to go to the polling centers with arms or offensive material or sharp instrument, warning that offenders would be arrested accordingly.
The Regional Police commander said the police in the region were fully prepared to attend to any eventuality that could cause violence and disturb the prevailing peace of the region, before, during and after the elections.
DCOP Mr Owusu-Ansah said the command had beefed up security to maintain law and order and to ensure that the delegates voted in an atmosphere of peace, saying police personnel had been positioned at strategic locations to quickly respond to crime.
He said RoboCop and the Patrol teams were all at standby to protect, and commended the conduct of the elections, saying so far, no incident had happened at the various voting centers in the region.
DCOP reminded the delegates that the elections were an internal issue and urged them to conduct themselves well in order not to find trouble for themselves.
