Accra, Jan. 8, GNA — The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority in Parliament has criticised the performance of President John Dramani Mahama’s first year in office, saying it is “relapse into dangerous economic experiments, lawless governance, and predatory partisanship.”
Addressing the Parliamentary Press Corps on Thursday in Parliament House, Accra, Madam Patricia Appiagyei, the Deputy Minority Leader, highlighted several concerns, including an alleged $214 million loss in the Gold-for-Reserves programme, abandoned farmers and a deteriorating security situation.
The Deputy Minority Leader said the Gold-for-Reserves Programme, initiated by the previous NPP Government, had incurred significant losses under the current administration.
“Farmers are struggling with bumper harvests and lack of support, while the government celebrates cedi appreciation,” she said.
Touching on security concerns, Madam AppiagyeI, also the NPP Member of Parliament for Asokwa, alleged that insecurity was on the rise, with increased armed robbery, murders, and kidnappings.
“Unemployment remains a major concern, with over a million young people jobless or underemployed,” she added.
The Minority, therefore, called for parliamentary investigations into the Gold-for-Reserves programme and demanded accountability for the alleged losses incurred.
President Mahama on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, marked a one-year tenure after officially assuming office as the President of the Republic of Ghana, marking the beginning of his second term in office after a resounding victory in the 2024 general elections.
