Investing in young female poultry farmers goes beyond individual livelihoods — Rev Amenaki

Dzodze (V/R), Jan. 23, GNA – The Reverend Martin Amenaki, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ketu North, has described investments in young female poultry farmers as a strategic intervention that transcends individual economic empowerment.

He said such investments play a critical role in strengthening food security, generating employment, and promoting inclusive local economic development across the municipality and beyond.

Rev Amenaki made these remarks while commending the “Supporting Young Female Poultry Farmers” initiative, which deliberately places young women at the centre of agricultural transformation and value-chain development in the Volta and Oti regions.

He highlighted the programme’s comprehensive support package, which includes the provision of day-old chicks, quality feed, veterinary and extension services, market linkages, and digital capacity-building.

According to him, this integrated approach aligns strongly with the Assembly’s development priorities by equipping beneficiaries with both technical skills and business acumen needed to establish and sustain viable agribusiness enterprises.

“By empowering young women with practical skills, essential inputs, and access to markets, we are not only improving household incomes but also building a new generation of agripreneurs who can drive productivity and resilience within the poultry value chain,” Rev Amenaki said.

He further observed that such initiatives help address youth unemployment, reduce poverty, and enhance nutrition at the community level, while creating ripple effects that benefit families, traders, and allied service providers.

Rev Amenaki praised Agro Innova and its partners for their commitment to youth and women empowerment through agriculture, describing their work as a model for inclusive development.

He noted that when young women are supported to succeed, entire communities stand to gain through improved livelihoods, stronger local economies, and enhanced social well-being.

The MCE reaffirmed the Ketu North Municipal Assembly’s readiness to collaborate with development partners, private sector actors, and civil society organisations to scale up similar interventions.

He said the Assembly remains committed to creating an enabling environment for agribusiness growth and ensuring that young people, particularly women, are supported to thrive, lead, and contribute meaningfully to sustainable development in the region.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Assembly, the MCE, and partner organisations for the support and opportunities provided, noting that the assistance had strengthened their confidence, improved their livelihoods, and enhanced their prospects for building sustainable poultry enterprises.
