Accra, June 20, GNA – The SIC Insurance PLC has taken a major step in its sustainability journey with the official outdooring of a new fleet of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure, as part of its newly launched Green Transition Agenda.
Speaking at a ceremony in Accra, Mr James Agyenim-Boateng, the Managing Director, said the move aligned with the Government of Ghana’s commitment to climate action, renewable energy, and cleaner transportation.
“This reflects a growing understanding that modern day businesses must balance profitability with environmental stewardship and social impact,” he said.
Mr Agyenim-Boateng recalled that just over a year ago, SIC Insurance began powering selected branches with solar energy what started as a “modest but significant” pilot had since proven successful, with encouraging results. According to him, plans were now “well advanced” to extend solar power to major branches nationwide.
“Today’s EV outdooring marks the next deliberate step on that journey,” he noted.
The Managing Director said the electric vehicles and charging stations at selected locations represented more than a change in mobility.
“They represent a change in how this company thinks about its footprint, about its responsibility and about the kind of future we want to help build for Ghana and for the generations that will come after us,” he stated.

Mr Agyenim-Boateng stressed that as an insurer, SIC’s core business was managing risk and protecting what mattered. He noted that climate change poses one of the greatest risks to lives, property, economies, and communities.
“It would be inconsistent of us to underwrite protection against risk while remaining indifferent to one of its greatest sources.
“These electric vehicles, like our solar rollout before them, are a statement that SIC Insurance intends to lead by example, not merely by policy documents,” he said.
He commended the Board of Directors, Management, staff, partners, and stakeholders for making the Green Transition initiative possible.
He described the EV rollout as “not the destination but as the beginning of a broader transformation agenda.”
“Solar power today, electric vehicles now and I have no doubt many more milestones will come soon as we continue to position ourselves not just as a leader in insurance, but as a responsible corporate citizen committed to the wellbeing of our environment and our nation,” he added.
He also urged other institutions to emulate SIC’s example in building a greener, more sustainable Ghana.
The event ended with a thanksgiving prayer for SIC Insurance PLC and Ghana.
