Dzodze (VR), Jan. 4, GNA – The Global Evangelical Church (GEC), Tefillah Chapel – Dzodze, has organized a free health screening exercise for residents in and around Dzodze – Alagbavi in the Volta Region.
The initiative, which took place over the weekend , offered vital health checks and education, and counselling to the beneficiaries.
The exercise covered screening for Blood Pressure (BP) and Blood Glucose tests, comprehensive health education on Hypertension and Diabetes, their complications, and counseling on medication adherence.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Rev. Daniel Manyo, the Akatsi Presbytery Chairman of the Church, who sponsored the initiative, said the exercise aimed at advancing the church’s role in promoting holistic health.
He said beyond meeting the spiritual needs of its members and host communities, the Church must also ensure that the physical well-being of the people were met.
“Our mission goes beyond spiritual nourishment. The physical well-being of our members and the community should matter to us,” he said.
“This is our maiden health screening, and we look forward to making it a regular activity.”
The medical team was led by Mr. Richard Brempong, a Nursing Officer at the St. Anthony Catholic Hospital, Dzodze, and Mr Daniel D-Manyo, a Disease Control Personnel, ensured accurate testing and personalised counseling for all participants.
Speaking to the GNA, Mr. Brempong said those with complicated issues were referred to seek further treatment.
He also revealed that some participants were given practical advice on lifestyle changes to prevent chronic illnesses.
Some beneficiaries who spoke to the GNA after the exercise, expressed appreciation for the initiative, highlighting its impact on their health awareness.
Madam Joycelyn Ewoenam said beyond the screening, she found the counselling session to be very beneficial.
“This exercise has opened my eyes to the importance of regular check-ups. I’m thankful to the church for bringing this to our doorstep,” she said.
According to organizers, there are plans for another event in April 2026, which will include a Blood Donation Exercise.
The initiative they said reflected the church’s commitment to addressing health challenges in the community and fostering a culture of preventive care.
