Accra, Dec. 6, GNA – Dr Akwasi Oppong-Fosu, the Board Chairman of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), has urged individuals and institutions to support disadvantaged persons to enable them to realise their full potential.
“Let us give opportunities to the disadvantaged in society. We all can’t be at the same level at the same time; some will fall behind, but it is up to the strong to lift the weak,” he said.
“We all have dreams, and the disadvantaged also have dreams. It is up to us to help them realise those dreams. If we leave them behind, they become a burden to society.”
Dr Oppong-Fosu said this when he joined Mrs Yvonne Abba-Opoku, the Founder of the Heartfelt Philanthropy Network, to present a video camera to the Street Academy at the Arts Centre in Accra.
Over the years, Mrs Abba-Opoku has provided immense support to the Academy, particularly in promoting reading skills among pupils.
Dr Oppong-Fosu commended her for her consistent philanthropy, which he said were driven by passion and not political interest.
He noted that there were many ways to support the disadvantaged, including education, sports and skills training.
Dr Oppong-Fosu stressed the need to inspire people living on the streets and offer them opportunities to improve their lives.
Mrs Abba-Opoku, on her part, said she was delighted to see some pupils excel academically and transition into mainstream schools.
She appealed to organisations and individuals to support the Academy with time and resources, adding that the video camera would help track the progress of the children.
She recounted her organisation’s support, including providing furniture, enhancing reading skills and assisting the Street Academy clinic.
Mr Ataa Lartey, the Executive Director of Street Academy, said the institution had successfully enrolled 22 children into mainstream schools this year, while six students sat for the 2025 WASSCE.
He commended the Heartfelt Philanthropy Network for its immense support and appealed for further assistance to help nurture more talents.
The Street Academy identifies and develops the talents of deprived, needy and street children in Accra, offering training in sports, culture, drama and basic vocational skills.
