Sunyani (Bono), Dec. 03, GNA- Road crashes killed 51 people in the Bono Region between January and October 2025, Madam Abigail Atinpoka, the Bono Regional Head of the National Road Authority has said.

However, comparatively, there was a 17.7 per cent reduction as 62 deaths were recorded within the same period in 2024.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Sunyani on Wednesday, Madam Atinpoka said the crashes involved 111 vehicles, and left 108 people with various degrees of injuries.

She said within the same period in 2024, 146 vehicles were involved in crashes, injuring 144 people, which constituted a reduction of 25 per cent in the rate of the 2025 figure.

As the Christmas festivities set in, Madam Atinpoka said the weather conditions would not be all that favourable for journeying, and advised drivers, especially commercial ones, to endeavour to observe road signs.

She noted that human error of driver negligence and carelessness as well as speeding and wrongful overtaking caused many of the recorded road crashes, and urged drivers to also check their tyres, brakes and lights before journeying.

Madam Atinpoka said the Authority in the region was doing everything possible to engage and enlighten commercial drivers on road safety and urged transport organisations to also check drivers against alcoholism and substance abuses.

“We are trying our best, as an institution, to ensure that road crashes are brought to the barest minimum in the festive season and to save precious lives and properties, and we expect everybody to also contribute to that regard,” she stated.

Madam Atinpoka reminded commuters of the need for them to wear their seat belts whenever they boarded vehicles to protect themselves.
