Taviefe, Dec. 17, 2025, GNA – The Republic Bank, in partnership with local authorities, has cut the sod for a mechanised borehole at Taviefe Senior High School.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held at Taviefe Senior High School, would address the persistent water shortage that has long affected students and the surrounding community.
Mr James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, joined Republic Bank’s leadership to launch the project, praising the initiative as a timely and bold intervention to improve the well-being of the community.
Mr Gunu indicated that: “Access to clean water is fundamental, and this borehole will greatly ease the daily struggles faced by students and residents alike.
The project is part of Republic Bank’s Power to Make a Difference (PMAD) programme and aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6, which seeks universal access to safe water and sanitation.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr Benjamin Dzokoto, Managing Director of Republic Bank, emphasised the transformative impact of the project beyond infrastructure.
“This initiative is not just about water; it is about enabling students to dedicate more time to their studies and achieve academic excellence,” he said.
Mr Richmond Edem Kofi Kpotosu, Member of Parliament of Ho Central Constituency, commended Republic Bank for demonstrating corporate social responsibility.
He encouraged the school authorities to maintain the facility and ensure it serves generations to come.


Also present at the ceremony was Mr Stephen Adom, Ho Central Municipal Chief Executive, who lauded the partnership between the private sector and government in addressing community challenges.
“Such collaborations are critical for sustainable development in our municipalities,” he remarked.
Other dignitaries in attendance included Mr Kofi Attor, Former MP for Ho Central constituency and representatives from the school management, who expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for prioritizing the Taviefe community’s water needs.
The mechanised borehole is expected to significantly reduce water scarcity at Taviefe Senior High School, enhance hygiene, and provide students with more time to focus on their education, contributing to the overall socio-economic development of the Volta Region.
