Accra, Dec. 9, GNA – Mrs Maame Efua Houadijeto, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has visited victims of last weekend’s Amedzofe Canopy Walk incident to commiserate with them and reaffirm the Authority’s commitment to their safety and wellbeing.
This was after the GTA’s attention was drawn to the incident when it occurred, prompting the Volta Regional Director to visit the site to gather first-hand information and engage management of the facility on the circumstances surrounding the event.
In a release issued to the Ghana News Agency on Monday, it said according to management of the attraction, no fatalities were recorded, although a number of visitors sustained injuries.
The GTA noted that it remained deeply concerned about the incident and was closely monitoring ongoing investigations being undertaken by the relevant authorities. “Findings and any necessary corrective actions will be communicated upon the
conclusion of the investigations.”
It said during her visit to the injured victims, the CEO expressed sympathy and reassured them of the Authority’s full support.
She conveyed warm wishes to all affected persons and stressed that the safety of visitors to tourism sites across the country was non-negotiable.
“Our thoughts are with every victim and every family affected by this unfortunate incident. Tourism must be safe and dependable, and we are committed to ensuring that all safety lapses, if any, are fully addressed. Your wellbeing matters to us,” she said.
The visit also saw the CEO present a cash donation and essential items to the victims to support their recovery.
