Washington, July 27 (RIA Novosti/GNA) – Nvidia is investing in Safe Superintelligence, an AI company founded by Russia-born former OpenAI Chief Scientist Ilya Sutskever, to expand the startup’s access to computing resources and help Nvidia to compete with rivals, The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday, citing companies and sources.
According to the report, Safe Superintelligence will gain access to large volumes of Nvidia’s flagship graphics-processing unit (GPU), which would significantly increase its computing capacity.
The company had previously relied mainly on tensor-processing units (TPU) developed by US tech giant Google, the newspaper reported.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, the newspaper added.
Nvidia reached a similar investment agreement in March with former OpenAI Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati, who founded Thinking Machines Lab last year. The startup released its first AI model trained on Nvidia’s hardware earlier this month, the report said.
