Accra, Dec. 31, GNA — The Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, has declared 2026 the Year of Cleanliness and Godliness, urging Ghanaians to embrace moral, spiritual and environmental purity.
The declaration was contained in a New Year message signed by the Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. Bliss Divine Agbeko (Rtd), Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, and Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana.
The statement said the 2026 General Assembly theme, “Cleanliness is next to Godliness, Keep Clean!”, called for purity of character, heart, mind and attitude beyond physical sanitation.
Rt. Rev. Agbeko explained that true cleanliness formed the basis for healthy living and a wholesome environment in which God dwelt and blessed His people.
“To keep clean is to forgive those who have wronged us, to guard our minds and emotions against evil, to strengthen our faith by trusting fully in God, and to care for our environment so that it remains healthy, beautiful, and worthy of God’s Presence,” the statement said.
The Moderator prayed for a renewed beginning for the nation as Ghanaians prepared to enter 2026, asking God to grant hope, joy, peace and happiness, and to guide the country in unity, goodness, prosperity and spiritual growth.
He urged citizens to live at peace with one another, noting that cleanliness reflected the nature and goodness of God and revealed His glory through daily conduct and relationships.
The statement further prayed for God’s blessings on Ghana and its leadership, including the President, the Speaker of Parliament and the Chief Justice, and asked for wisdom, unity and cooperation in governing the nation.
Rt. Rev. Agbeko also prayed that throughout 2026, Ghanaians would be led in paths of righteousness, maintaining clean hearts, clean environments, clean relationships and pure worship of God in spirit and in truth.
He asked God to bless the nation and keep Ghana clean, healthy and strong.
