New Abirem (E/R), Dec. 6, GNA – Mr. Ebenezer Opuni Frimpong, 53, the Eastern Regional Overall Best Farmer from Chia, in the Akyemansa District, has appealed to the government to enhance Agricultural mechanisation.
He said that although the Modernizing Agriculture in Ghana programme had existed for some years, farmers still lacked farming equipment, making farming unattractive to people, as most farmers rely on subsistence farming..
Mr. Frimpong made the appeal at the Farmers Day 2025, celebration under the theme: ” Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future, ” at New Abirem in the Birim North District.
He urged the youth to join farmer-based groups, which come with financial advantages and bring on board more experienced people to put resources together to achieve their aims.

Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, Eastern Regional Minister, said the theme for the Farmers Day celebration aligned with the several Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) including Goal 2 which seeks to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.
She said that to feed Ghana was to invest in the farmers, modernize agricultural systems, and create a conducive environment for the Ghanaian farmer to thrive..
The government, through the Feed Ghana flagship programme, would continue to modernize agriculture to create more jobs, reduce food inflation and foster agro-industrial development.
Mrs. Awatey said, ” It is therefore a national duty and a collective responsibility to make the programme happen. ”
She lauded President Mahama for the launch of the Nkoko Nkitinkiti Project, which aims to raise poultry-sufficiency from 12 percent to 75 percent by 2028.
The project which is a component of the Poultry Industry Revitalization Programme is targeted at restoring food self-sufficiency, strengthening household resilience and creating livelihoods for women, youth and vulnerable families.
The Eastern Regional Farmers Day celebration awarded Mr. Kwame Anywi-Boasiako, the Regional Best Youth Farmer, from Asamankese, Ms.Margaret Agyei, the Regional Best Female Farmer, from Achiase, and Mr. Freeman Sampson, the Best Differently Abled Farmer.
