Moscow, Dec 17, (dpa/GNA) – Several people were injured overnight in Ukraine and Russia, following drone attacks by the two warring sides, local authorities said on Wednesday.
In the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson, two men were taken to hospital after a drone strike late Tuesday, the city administration said. One of the victims was in critical condition.
In Russia, authorities in the southern Krasnodar region reported that two people had been injured by falling drone debris.
Several residential buildings were also said to have been damaged in the Slavyansky district. Two high-voltage power lines were hit, leaving around 13,000 people without electricity, officials said.
Russian authorities confirmed an earlier report by Ukrainian media of a strike on a refinery in Slavyansk-na-Kubani, where a fire broke out but was quickly extinguished. No details on the extent of the damage were provided.
Russia has carried out sustained air attacks on Ukraine since the start of its invasion in February 2022, frequently targeting energy infrastructure.
Ukraine has meanwhile developed longer-range drones and has increasingly used them to strike facilities linked to Russia’s oil and gas industry. Kiev says such attacks are aimed at disrupting Russia’s fuel supplies and making it harder for Moscow to finance the war.
The scale of damage and the number of casualties in Russia are far lower than the destruction and loss of life inflicted in Ukraine.
