Dambai (O/R), Dec 29, GNA – Nana Osagyefo Nyanya III, the Divisional chief of Bowiri-Takrabe in the Biakoye District of the Oti Region, has emphasized that unreliable communication networks are a major barrier to the community’s progress, affecting key sectors such as education, healthcare, business and governance.
He said the communities including Bowiri Amamfrom, Bowiri Anyinase, Bowiri Aboabo, Bowiri Kubease, Bowiri Kyinahin, Bowiri Abohire, Bowiri and Odumase are struggling with proper internet connectivity.
Osagyefo Nyanya III, speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), lamented that the poor network coverage limits access to information, stifles economic opportunities and slows development efforts.
According to him, students struggle to access online resources and participate in digital learning, putting them at a disadvantage. In addition, local entrepreneurs face difficulties connecting with suppliers, customers, and financial services, hindering growth.
The divisional chief explained that limited network coverage delays medical consultations and emergency responses, risking lives in the area. Added that, residents find it hard to engage with government services and officials, slowing accelerated development initiatives.
The chief urged authorities and telecom providers to prioritize improving network infrastructure in Bowiri-Takrabe, stressing that better connectivity would unlock opportunities and drive sustainable development.
Dr Richard Bisimpo, a retired Regional Fire Safety Officer and 2023 National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary aspirant of Biakoye constituency, has called on the District Assembly to upgrade the Kwame-Krom and Bowiri-Takrabe road using District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) machines.
He emphasized that improving the road will ease travel for commuters and boost local trade; his appeal aligns with calls from the divisional chief to enhance connectivity and drive progress in Bowiri-Takrabe.
Mr Alfred Boamah, one of the community leaders, also urged support of the National Communication Authority (NCA) to enhance network connectivity to stem the perennial challenges botched by bad network.
He expressed worry over the poor network services of mobile telecommunication companies in the area, which is affecting trading and their businesses and appealed to the NCA to compel the telecom companies to improve their services.
He told GNA that, if there is any criminal activities ongoing, reaching out to the security agencies for assistance would become problematic.
