Cassona reaffirms commitment to healthcare infrastructure development in West Africa

Accra, Dec. 16, GNA — Cassona Healthcare has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the development of healthcare infrastructure across West Africa.

The company said its approach includes equipment maintenance, sustainability measures and training for local biomedical engineers, doctors, nurses and other health professionals to support skills transfer from expatriate specialists.

Speaking on the issue, Mr John Chigbu, the Chief Executive Officer of Cassona Healthcare, said it was “encouraging” to hear President John Dramani Mahama’s recent call for stronger Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to strengthen Ghana’s healthcare system.

Mr Chigbu said Cassona shared the President’s view on the limitations of public funding and the need for private sector participation to deliver healthcare services.

He said the company had submitted healthcare infrastructure proposals to ECOWAS stakeholders, including the Lagos State Government, Niger State Government, Kaduna State Government, and national governments in Benin and Senegal.

Mr Chigbu said Cassona’s proposals were aligned with concerns about equipping hospitals while reducing pressure on government resources through PPP arrangements.

He said since 2022, Cassona had expanded from medical equipment supply into hospital design and construction, equipment supply, maintenance, training and financing solutions.

Mr Chigbu said knowledge transfer remained central to the company’s operations, with expatriate specialists training local physicians, radiologists and biomedical engineers.

He said the company also provided credit-financing options to support project sustainability.

On hospital administration, Mr Chigbu said engaging professional hospital management firms could improve financial sustainability by introducing accountability, efficiency and oversight of revenue.

He said such management models allowed hospitals to operate as self-sustaining institutions while providing care.

Mr Chigbu said President Mahama’s views on hospital management reflected a similar approach, which he described as “refreshing and forward-looking.”

Mr Chigbu said the region needed to address the loss of skilled medical professionals and reduce spending on outbound medical treatment.

“Cassona is eager to work with all governments across ECOWAS—both Francophone and Anglophone—to bring this vision to life,” Mr Chigbu said.

“We are leveraging our experience in Ghana and across West Africa, but more importantly, our passion and confidence in the region’s future. Africa is the next center of the world—it is our time to shine.

”The company said it had installed more than 200 diagnostic imaging systems across ECOWAS and currently employed over 50 local professionals in Ghana at its Accra headquarters.

It said plans were underway to recruit additional staff in Lagos and Dakar by 2026 as part of its regional expansion.
