Adelekezo ( W/R), Dec.15, GNA – Mr Herbert Kuah-Dickson, the  Municipal Chief Executive ( MCE) for Nzema-East and head of the Municipal Security Council ( MUSEC), says calm has been  restored to  Adelekezo,  following the shooting  incident that occurred at a Mining Company site on Saturday, December 13, 2025 .

The incident claimed the life of one boy and destroyed properties belonging to the Company at Adelekezo near Dadwen in the Nzema-East Municipality.

The MCE in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, on behalf of the government, extended his condolences to the bereaved family of the boy who met his untimely death.

Meanwhile, the Western Regional Police Command had launched investigations into the shooting incident.

A news release issued by Superintendent of Police ( SOP) Ms Olivia E. T. Adiku , the Head of Public Affairs Unit at Sekondi, said the police team which responded to the scene, found two 44 SUV vehicles, two tipper trucks burnt, while one pick-up vehicle and a Toyota Land Cruiser were also seen damaged by the youth of the town.

The said   preliminary investigations suggested that some youth from Adelekezo had a misunderstanding with the private security men of the Company in an attempt to invade the Company’s concession.

In the process, they attempted to take one of the security men’s pump action gun from him, which he resisted, and fired, hitting the boy.

The victim was rushed to the Axim Government Hospital for treatment, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The release said the death of the boy (name withheld) infuriated the youth of the town, who went on the rampage at the site, setting some properties of the Company ablaze, and threatening to lynch the workers.

The police team was able to rescue 11 of the workers and also arrested suspects Gyenyame Owusu, 38 years, Matthew Asamoah 24 years, Nana Yaw 15 years, Yaw Opoku 16 years and Kojo Agyei, aged 21, for causing harm and causing unlawful damage.

The Western Regional Police Command had called on members of the community to remain calm and cooperate with the investigations to ensure justice was served.
