Sefwi Ahibenso (WN/R), Dec. 6, GNA – Mr Stephen Baidoo, the Bodi District Chief Executive (DCE), says the Assembly through its Department of Agriculture, is taking steps to promote local food production and consumption to boost agriculture productivity and reduce imports.

He said this at the 41st National Farmers’ Day celebration, at Sefwi Ahibenso, in the Bodi District of the Western North Region.

It was on the theme: “Eat Ghana, Grow Ghana, Secure the future.”

Mr Baidoo said the theme for this year’s celebration was appropriate because it highlighted the importance of national food security.

He said it also encouraged the citizenry to embrace local food production to strengthen self-sufficiency and reduce dependence on imports.

“The theme for the occasion reflects government’s broader vision to transform agriculture into a driver of inclusive growth, climate resilience, job creation, and national pride,” he added.

Nana Kwaku Danso Abiam, the Chief of Sefwi Ahibenso, who is also the Nsomankwahene of  Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council, who chaired the occasion, appealed to the government to help rehabilitate roads in farming communities in the Bodi District.

He encouraged the youth, especially those in his area, to go into farming instead of going around looking for non-existing office jobs.

Mr Isaac Mensah, the Bodi District Director of Agriculture, also urged the youth to venture into farming to help produce more food for the country, noting that the government had put in place measures and policies to make farming more attractive for the Ghanaian youth.

As part of the celebration, Mr Robert Owusu Koah, a 63-year old from Sefwi Suiano “A”, was adjudged the Overall District Best Farmer.

He was awarded, a motor bike, knapsack spraying machine, pair of wellington boots, a cutlass, and a certificate of recognition.

Mr Owusu thanked the Bodi District Assembly for the honour done him, and appealed to the government to support the youth in farming with inputs and financial assistance.
