Sunyani District Court remands 58-year-old man in connection with Asuakwaa fire disaster

Sunyani, (Bono), Nov. 4, GNA – The Sunyani District Court has remanded a 58-year-old man in police custody in connection with the fire incident, which burnt to death a couple at Asuakwaa, near New-Dormaa in the Municipality.   

According to a statement issued by the Bono Regional Police Command, the suspect, Stephen Kodom was arraigned before the court presided over by Mr Eric Daning on two provisional counts of murder and causing unlawful damage.   

He will reappear before the court on November 11, 2025, a copy of the statement signed by Chief inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Public Relations Officer of the Bono Regional Police Administration and made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani indicated.   

It said suspect Kodom was arrested at Wenchi in the region on Friday November 1, 2025, saying the police were still conducting their investigations.   

Nana Ampofo, 65 years and her late wife, Grace Adu Boafoaa, 49 years, were burnt to death in the fire disaster, which happened on October 20, 2025.   

The Police retrieved their charred bodies in the kitchen of their five-bedroom apartment.
