SML Case: Ofori-Atta, Seven Others for Court on November 24

Accra, Nov. 20, GNA – Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta, a former Minister of Finance, and seven others will be arraigned before an Accra High Court on Monday, November 24, 2025.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) said it would seek the necessary court orders for service of the charge sheet on the fugitives, who were outside of the jurisdiction.

The accused persons were charged with 78 counts of corruption and corruption-related offences regarding the SML Ghana contract.

The others charged include Ernest Akore, Chef de Cabinet to Ofori-Atta; Emmanuel Kofi Nti, a former Commissioner-General of GRA; Rev. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, a former Commissioner-General of GRA; Isaac Crentsil, a former Commissioner of the Customs Division of GRA and General Manager of SML; Kwadwo Damoah, a former Commissioner of the Customs Division of GRA; and Evans Adusei, Chief Executive of SML.

According to the charge sheet, the accused persons were charged with conspiracy to commit a criminal offence of directly or indirectly influencing the procurement process to obtain an unfair advantage in the award of a procurement contract.

The offence is said to be contrary to Section 23(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) and Section 92(2)(b) of the Public Procurement Act, 2003 (Act 663).

The charges follow months of scrutiny over contracts among the Ministry of Finance, the GRA, and SML, Ghana.
