Accra, Nov. 5, GNA – Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asutifi North, who allegedly incited a mob to attack the director of NAIMOS, Colonel Dominic Buah, and his team at Ahafo Hwediem in the Ahafo Region, has appeared in court.

Addo, who appeared before an Accra Circuit Court, has been slapped with charges including conspiracy to assault a public officer, assault on a public officer, conspiracy to cause unlawful damage, causing unlawful damage and rioting with weapons.

Two other accomplices, whose names were given as Zakaria Yakubu and Alex, were said to be at large.

The court did not take the MP’s plea based on prosecution’s prayer to preserve his plea pending investigations.

The court has admitted the MP to bail in the sum of GHC150,000, with one surety to be justified.

It asked the MP not to leave the jurisdiction (Greater Accra Region) to any part of the country without prior notice of the investigator.

Additionally, it ordered the accused to report once every two weeks to the investigator, until the order was reversed or trial commenced.

The court cautioned the MP to desist from any behaviour likely to frustrate investigation.

The matter has been adjourned to December 1, 2025.

Earlier, defence counsel prayed the court to admit the accused person as he was not in the position of interfering with police investigations.

His lawyers say the MP reported to the police and he was never arrested.

Prosecution prayed the court not to take the plea of accused persons adding that the MP was arrested on Wednesday.

It held that the matter had assumed a national character and the Criminal Investigation Department headquarters had taken over the investigations.

The prosecution prayed the court to remand the accused pending ongoing investigations.

The defence team vehemently opposed prayer by the prosecution, saying it was the accused who presented himself to the police and that he was never arrested.

It said the accused person was a sitting Member of Parliament for Asutifi North and had nowhere to abscond to.

Defence counsel held that the MP had a fixed place of abode, and he will always appear to stand trial when granted bail because he was married with children.

The court, after listening to prosecution’s submissions and that of defence counsel, admitted the accused person to bail.

On November 3, 2025, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno directed the CID headquarters to investigate the attack on the Director of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariate (NAIMOS) and his team at Hwediem.

Addo, the MP for Asutifi North, who allegedly incited the mob and obstructed the NAIMOS Team, was invited by the police to assist in investigations.
