Accra, Nov. 19, GNA – The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has expressed deep sorrow following the death of a member of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) in a motor accident near the Obuasi Airport area on Wednesday, November 19.
A statement issued by the Ministry’s Communications Directorate in Accra said the accident occurred while a five-member NAIMOS team was engaged in a major anti-galamsey operation aimed at curbing illegal mining activities within the enclave.
Tragically, one member of the taskforce lost his life, while four others sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.
The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and conveyed his best wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured officers.
The Ministry further announced that a full investigation had been launched into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
It reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of all frontline personnel and pledged to provide the necessary support and care to the affected team members.
