Keta (VR), Nov 28, GNA- Mr Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, Member of Parliament for Keta in the Volta Region, has organised a free eye screening and surgery programme, aimed at enhancing eye health, among his constituents.

The event, “Free Eye Screening and Surgeries,” was done in collaboration with the Keta Municipal Government Hospital, Lifetime Well Vision, Friends Eye Centre, and the Keta Municipal Assembly.

Mr Gakpey said the project was his commitment to improving healthcare access in the constituency.

“Eye health is a critical aspect of overall well-being and the initiative is to significantly impact communities by addressing vision problems and its related health issues,” he said.

He explained that the  programme would cater for various communities within the constituency, with scheduled dates and venues clearly outlined to cover residents of Anlo-Afiadenyigba, Anyako, Konu, Hatorgodo, Tsiame, Vui, and Abutiakope among other communities set to benefit from the outreach.

He said the schedule, which began from Wednesday, November 26 and would end on Monday, December 1, aiming to reach a wide segment of the population, included comprehensive services to address eye health needs for patients.

“The health engagement is a community-focused healthcare initiative, which is expected to reflect on the dedication to constituent service. With the partnership with reputable health organisations like Lifetime Well Vision and Friends Eye Centre, the event is poised to deliver quality eye care services.”

The law maker stated that the communities listed for the screening and surgeries would have convenient access to vital health services, brought directly to their local areas to help overcome barriers to healthcare access often faced by rural or underserved populations.

He said reputable, well experienced and committed healthcare workers were contacted and were taking charge of the initiative and urged the public to take advantage of the opportunity provided and reach out for more information or clarification on the event to ensure the success of the health outreach programme.

He encouraged the public to participate fully in the exercise that could lead to early detection of conditions like cataracts, glaucoma, and other vision impairments, which were significant public health concerns, noting the free surgeries would further support those in need of corrective interventions.

Some beneficiaries and health workers the Ghana News Agency (GNA) interacted with, welcomed the MP’s  free eye screening initiative, which had aligned with broader public health goals of improving healthcare outcomes in various communities to promote proactive services and focus on a critical health aspect.

GNA also gathered that the Keta MP had been in collaboration with various health workers across the country for the free eye screening initiative that prioritised the health of constituents for the past four years.
