Accra, Nov. 13, GNA – Mr Issifu Seidu, the Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, says just transition remains a national priority for Ghana in the ongoing Conference of the Parties (COP) 30 negotiations.
Speaking at the COP30 Presidency’s Open Dialogue with Parties and NGO Constituencies, the Minister underscored the need for enhanced international cooperation to ensure fairness, inclusiveness, and equity in the implementation of climate actions.
The session was under the theme, “Just Transition: Status of Negotiations and Opportunities for an Ambitious Outcome,”
This was contained release issued and copied to the Ghana News Agency by the Public Relations outfit of the Minister.
Mr Seidu outlined key areas where global collaboration could drive progress, including the creation of systemic platforms for information exchange, coherent guidelines for just transition pathways, and support for integrating just transition principles into national climate policies.
He also highlighted Ghana’s commitment to nature-based and renewable energy solutions, referencing initiatives such as the Tree for Life programme which promoted large-scale afforestation, climate education, and gender-responsive strategies.
The Minister called for a multidimensional approach to climate action, one that promoted regional cooperation, reformed international financial systems, and channeled debt relief resources toward adaptation and sustainable development.
Mr Seidu stressed that all elements of the Just Transition Work Programme must be implemented.
He urged Parties to prioritise technical assistance, knowledge exchange, and the mobilization of financial and technical support for developing countries.
The Minister underscored the importance of evidence-based decision-making, national-level implementation, and the protection of human rights and social safeguards to ensure no community was left behind in the global shift toward renewable energy and resilient economies.
