Journalists urged to uphold integrity, empathy, and accuracy

Tamale (N/R), Nov. 5, GNA- A former Executive Secretary of the National Media Commission (NMC), Mr. George Sarpong, has called on journalists to prioritise accuracy, integrity, and empathy in their storytelling. 

Speaking at an a training workshop organised by the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), ECOWAS Peace and Security Project (EPSG), held at Modern City Hotel, Mr. Sarpong emphasized the crucial role journalists play in shaping public discourse and influencing societal narratives. 

He said that upholding these core values is essential for building trust with audiences and promoting informed public debate. 

According to him, being accurate, empathetic, and integrity-driven, journalists can enhance their credibility and contribute to the overall integrity of the media industry. 

Mr Sarpong asked journalists to rise to the occasion and embrace ethical principles and codes of the noble profession so as to maintain the high standard of professionalism within the media practice. 

“Journalists must revisit the basic principles of truth, accuracy, fairness and objectivity which are the bedrock of journalism and foundation upon which the media in Ghana has built a positive image for itself.
