By Agbaxode Emmanuel, GNA

Akatsi (VR), GNA – Mr Daniel Dagba, the Municipal Chief Executive for Akatsi South, has reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to exploring opportunities to attract investors for the redevelopment of the Xavi Eco-Tourism Site, aiming to enhance its infrastructure and visitor experience.

He explained that their effort would include the construction of a summer hut, renovation of office space, provision of guest rooms, recreational facilities, rest areas, improvement of roads in the area, and eco-friendly walkways to attract both local and international tourists.

Mr Dagba gave the disclosure in his sessional address at the Third Ordinary Meeting of the Second Session of the Second Assembly at the Akatsi South Municipal Assembly Hall.

He said the Municipality is endowed with rich tourism resources, notably the Xavi Eco Tourism Site that was renowned for bird-watching and the presence of the Sitatunga species within the Avu Lagoon.

Mr Dagba indicated that effective exploitation of the opportunities had the potential to transform the local economy, create decent jobs, boost revenue mobilisation, and position Akatsi South as a leading ecotourism destination in the region.

He said the Assembly, as part of the government’s effort to boost economic activities and promote job creation in the area, remained supportive of the establishment of a 24-Hour Economy Market in the Municipality.

“The Public Procurement Authority (PPA) has been approved, and a consultant has been selected to ensure standardisation and proper supervision of the construction works. This project, when completed, will enhance commercial operations, improve local livelihoods, and contribute significantly to the municipality’s internal revenue generation.”

Mr Dagba also highlighted positive performance indicators and programmes that were aimed at bringing development to the area.

“Revenue mobilisation continues to be a priority for the Assembly in sustaining our development agenda. The Assembly is projected to collect total revenue of Gh₵1,149,318.50 for the 2025 fiscal year. As of the end of September 2025, we have realised ₵1,055,524.77, representing a commendable performance of over 91% of our annual target,” he added.

Others included security, food and agriculture, road improvement, and Infrastructure Development, among others.

Under the current Medium-Term Development Plan which ends this year, Mr Dagba revealed that preparations for a new plan were underway.

“The proposed theme is “Resetting–Ghana Agenda: Creating Jobs, Ensuring Accountability and Promoting Shared Prosperity.”

Key challenges identified during engagement with communities included poor roads, inadequate water and electricity supply, weak telecommunication networks, limited agricultural extension services, and insufficient health and educational infrastructure.

He expressed his sincere gratitude to all assembly Members, Heads of Departments, and staff for their continued support and collaboration.
