Accra, Nov.10, GNA – Supporters of Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko voiced mixed reactions after Kotoko secured a narrow 1-0 win in Sunday’s Ghana Premier League (GPL) showdown.
The highly anticipated match between the two Ghanaian heavyweights which drew passionate fans from across Ghana, witnessed some controversial moments.
“I came from Kumasi to support Hearts of Oak, but they didn’t win today’s game against Kotoko. Still, they played a very good game and we have all witnessed it.
“The officiating was not bad, but for our last-minute goal which was denied as offside,” said Suleman Adunaba, a Hearts fan.
He added: “As for football, if you play a nice game and don’t win, it is nothing. Kotoko were the better side today.”
Emmanuel Abeka Acquah, a Kotoko fan, described the match as entertaining but said his team missed good chances early on.
“The game was nice, but we were expecting more goals because of how we played. The last-minute goal was clearly offside, the referee had already whistled before the ball went into the net.
“However, Hearts’ reaction was not good, they didn’t show professionalism. In football, losing doesn’t mean the end of the world,” he said.
Another Kotoko supporter Nancy Adu Gyamfi praised her team’s performance. “It was a great game, and our players did well, but in the second half Kotoko relaxed a bit. Had it not been the offside, Hearts would have punished the team in the last minute. In all, Kotoko carried the day and I’m excited,” she said.
The “Super Clash” which was very entertaining with fans packed at the stadium underscored the fierce rivalry and enduring passion between the two fan bases and the second-round clash could even be bigger.
