Dormaa-Ahenkro (Bono), Nov. 13, GNA – The Dormaa Central Municipal Assembly has urged residents to be wary of some unauthorised levy collectors implementing the ‘Pay as you dump’ policy in the Municipality, to avoid being victims.
A statement issued and signed by Mr Adama Yeboah, the Presiding Member of Dormaa Central Municipal Assembly indicated that “the assembly hasn’t ordered anybody to collect levies on disposal of refuse at refuse dump sites in the Municipality.”
It said the practice of such unauthorised collectors contravened the Local Government Act 2016 (Act 936) sub-sections 181 and 182 paragraph 4(a), which unambiguously stipulated how by-laws were enacted and approved for implementation.
A copy of the statement made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Dormaa-Ahenkro warned those engaged in the unlawful practice to stop or find themselves wanting.
“In pursuant to the standing orders of the District Assembly, it is clear that the Pay as you dump levy does not meet the standards and procedures required for its implementation,” the statement indicated.
It added that: “It doesn’t feature or find its place in the approved fee fixing resolution and the Budget of the Dormaa Central Municipal Assembly that was passed at the just ended General Assembly Meeting”.
The statement described the collection of the levy as illegal, null and void and advised the Assembly Members and unit committees to always ensure that they sought approval from the Assembly before implementing initiatives in the municipality.
It said the pathway was necessary for the security of all stakeholders involved and guaranteed the promotion of transparency and accountability.
