Accra, Nov. 4, GNA – Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Minister of Health, has urged institutions to maintain professional and ethical standards in the provision of healthcare services.
Speaking at the 2025 conference of the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) in Koforidua, he called on practitioners not to discriminate against patients in public or private facilities.
Emphasising collaboration among institutions, he stressed that fairness and patient safety should remain the principles of quality public healthcare service delivery.
“Treatment of patients with care, dignity, and respect has virtually become my signature message since I became Minister responsible for health,” he stated.
“Visiting health facilities allows us to have first-hand information about what goes on in various settings.
“It is often what we do behind the scenes that matters more than what everyone observes… .We must strive to eliminate discrimination,” he stated.
Mr Akandoh highlighted the role of CHAG in Ghana’s healthcare system and praised the dedication of staff at various facilities.
“In many of Ghana’s most remote communities, where hope might otherwise be distant, CHAG facilities have stood as beacons of compassion and healing.
“Beyond delivering over 30 per cent of health services nationwide lies a greater truth – you are more than providers of care; you are custodians of faith, dignity, and humanity in our health system.
“Your work affirms that medicine is not only a science, but also a ministry,” he added.
Reaffirming partnership with CHAG, the Health Minister acknowledged challenges in the sector and expressed commitment to addressing personnel posting and salary delays to boost workforce morale.
“Clinical procedures may be followed meticulously, but the warm human connection – that essential element of healing – can sometimes be lost.
“Every patient encounter must become a moment of compassion, dignity, and hope, not simply a transaction, but a touch of grace,” he added.
The Annual Conference, brought together key national health leaders and faith-based stakeholders to discuss the future of ethical and value-driven healthcare in the country.
It was held under the theme: “Sustaining Christian Identity, Values, and Ethics in Health Systems Strengthening.”
The event, among other things, examined the Ministry of Health’s priorities for the 2026-2029 Health Sector Medium-Term Development Plan.
It also focused on strengthening CHAG institutions through responsible leadership and effective resource management, financial governance, and sustaining quality healthcare.
