Accra, Nov. 22, GNA – The Church of Pentecost, Adenta District, on Saturday organised a health screening exercise and a blood donation drive to climax their 30th anniversary celebration.
Members from across the district gathered to check their blood pressure, sugar levels, and undergo eye examination while others voluntarily donated blood to support the national blood bank.
Mr Emmanuel Nana Odeifour Kwame Appau, Head of the medical team at the church, told the Ghana News Agency that the health screening and blood donation drive was part of the church’s social responsibility.
“Christmas is approaching and we usually hear of a lot of road accidents during the season, most of the people involved may need blood, it is our passion to save lives that has led us to embark on this blood donation drive to support the blood bank,” he explained.
Reverend Kwadwo Osei Abunyewa, District Pastor of the Adenta Central Pentecost Church, said health screening was a very crucial exercise that members of the church and the community needed.
“We also want to support the blood bank, especially because we are nearing the festivities and it usually does come with a lot road accidents, we want to save lives by donating blood.”
He encouraged the church members to take their healthcare seriously and also donate blood to support the national blood bank.
Beyond the health outreach, the anniversary celebration featured educational programmes on fertility and legal issues, as well as a fundraising dinner night to strengthen community bonds.
